The view from the Laurent Perrier champagne bar on the 25th floor of the Cube was superb. Ahead we could see the red blinking lights at the top of the Birmingham BT Tower. To thr right, we spotted Selfridges, bathed in green and looking like an enormous beetle. Directly below, revellers were heading for the bars and restaurants of the Mailbox, the former sorting office that has become a popular nightspot.
